According to reports, Amazon plans to open a new chapter in the European market in the second quarter of 2024 and open its first beauty drugstore. It is reported that this store in the center of Milan, Italy is not only Amazon’s first pharmacy in Europe, but also its first physical store in Italy, focusing on providing various beauty and personal care products.
The store will be located in Piazzale Cadorna, the heart of Milan, with an area of 135 square meters, which was formerly owned by Italian pharmaceutical chain Pulker. At the beginning of this year, the building was acquired by Pellicano Italia Co., Ltd. and handed over to Amazon in early March.
Amazon’s move marks a big step in its continued expansion in the pharmaceutical industry. Since the acquisition of PillPack, an online pharmacy in Manchester, New Hampshire, in 2018, Amazon has been deeply involved in the medical field, and in 2020, it launched Amazon Pharmacy, a specialized marketing department.
Recently, through the acquisition of Eli Lilly, Amazon launched the LillyDirect platform, which allows Amazon to distribute drugs directly to consumers. At present, it provides 14 drugs for treating diabetes and migraine, and it is expected to expand the scope of drugs in the future. However, due to European regulations, Amazon cannot sell drugs in Europe, even over-the-counter drugs.
Amazon said that the opening of the store is the result of joint efforts with business partners, aiming to provide more beauty and personal care products to European customers. “We are very happy to continue this initiative and look forward to sharing more updates with our customers in the future.” Amazon said in a statement to Pharmacy Scanner. The exact date of opening and the name of the store have yet to be announced.
