According to market research firm Kantar, from June 2022 to May 2023, SHEIN not only ranked among the top 10 fashion e-commerce platforms in Spain by number of buyers, but also managed to overtake Zalando, AliExpress, Miravia and other platforms to rank second.
During this period, more than 4.85 million people in Spain bought clothes, shoes and accessories through Amazon. This accounted for a large proportion of the 18.18 million people who bought fashion online during the period. Amazon has the largest number of buyers and is the undisputed leader in this market.
But Shein’s exponential growth in recent years is threatening Amazon’s dominance: Shein now has 4.48 million shoppers, just 370,000 fewer than Amazon.
It’s worth noting that Amazon landed in Spain back in 2011, nearly a decade ahead of Shein. In just a few years, SHEIN has grown rapidly in the Spanish market and is strong enough to rival Amazon.
At the same time, SHEIN vigorously laid out the platform model “SHEIN Marketplace” and planned to introduce more third-party sellers. For SHEIN, the effort to make the “pie” bigger after that can benefit both the platform and the seller. For third-party sellers, after SHEIN’s open platform business, more sellers have the opportunity to enter the nuggets, especially in some of SHEIN’s advantages, sellers can use SHEIN’s brand influence and traffic to actively expand business.
